A lot of times people think the leader is the loudest person, or the leader is the most bombastic braggadocios person, or sometimes that the leader is the person that has the title. That’s all a bunch of crap.

The leader is the person that develops the courage and conviction to step forward. Leaders are lighthouses. Politicians and bosses are weathervanes, and whichever way the wind blows, they go that direction. Lighthouses are needed when it’s stormy and it’s rough and the wind is blowing and the fog is in.

A lot of people want to be a leader when it’s all hunky-dory and fun and the checks are coming and “everybody’s taking my picture and calling me this great thing.” They don’t want to lead when it’s tough. And when you’ve got to make tough calls and tough decisions, that’s when you need a leader.
