Highly recommended – a great description of a life journey, experiences and action to live by.Over the years I have ready many books, I have three that I recommend to my friend’s children that they read before they embark on a career.I now have a fourth – John Addison’s book Real Leadership. OK, why?My feeling is John has captured the essence of his personal experiences in this book and defined a great set of simple guidelines and practices that you can try and live your life by. This is not a book of grandeur and ego, it is a book of experiences, lessons and deep friendships. It is a book you can come back too, you can use it to frame a situation and provide insight. I was talking to a friends son recently and found myself referring to Chapter 7 – “Decision” and framing their problem in the context of the chapter and then recommending they read the book. How can you not then recommend the book to others? Thus, highly recommended – a great description of a life journey, experiences and action to live by.nb. For those who want to know the other books, I recommend they are (In no particular order)Real Leadership – John AddisonHow to Win Friends and Influence People Paperback – Dale CarnegieMeditations – Marcus AureliusGetting More: How You Can Negotiate to Succeed in Work and Life – Stuart Diamond

Valuable Advice About Business, Communication, and Life If you want to make dynamic speeches, watch my brief video portion of this review, which explains John Addison’s preparation and presentation strategy.Additionally, the book offers many proven guidelines about business and life. Samples:”My view is that you get up every day and aim to be a little better than you were yesterday. You figure out what you’re naturally good at. . . .Everyone has some distinct talent or area of potential excellence. What’s yours? If you don’t know, make it your business to find out.”“You’re either green and growing, or you’re ripe and rotten.”“Live every day like it’s your last. One day you’re going to be right.”“You can’t succeed on your own. Nobody does. . . .You want to build up a group of people who are pulling for you, not pulling against you—people who want you to succeed, not who want you to fail.”How much did this book appeal to me? This is the only book I ever remember reading voluntarily on a Saturday afternoon. You’ll benefit from this book, and you will want to share Real Leadership with your colleagues.

Leadership is serving those you lead!Great book! It is an honest look at leadership and all the lessons learned from starting at the bottom, working up the ladder and eventually becoming a CEO. The book just flies by as Addison gives his own personal stories and the wisdom he attained through the ups and downs of a business. His lessons on how to lead and impact his people are truths that everyone who think they are leaders should carefully study. Glad I received an advanced copy! It should be a mandatory read for managers and above.

… biographical account that shows by example how business is best conducted and how business leaders should conduct themselvesThis is an outstanding biographical account that shows by example how business is best conducted and how business leaders should conduct themselves. I have heard John Addison speak in person. I have listened to one of his success CDs. I have read this book with great benefit. And — full disclosure — I rep for the company he writes about. Everything he says is right on. You will benefit from this book, and you will especially benefit if you put into practices the principles he identifies and lived out in his own life.

Can’t wait!Just finished reading one of the best, most succinct books on SUCCESS that I have ever read. It’s a harrowing story of toughness, perseverance and triumph eloquently weaved into a modern day action thriller. The 9 Practices found at the end of each chapter (and at end of the book) come complete with “action steps” to implement. This will make it a great leadership resource for anyone serious about growing a team. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

direct and full of good advice. His story is also very emotionalVery readable, honest, direct and full of good advice. His story is also very emotional, and you can tell he is a natural leader who thought deeply about the decisions he and his business partner had to take in terms of how it would affect the thousands of colleagues who were depending on then to secure their futures, and not how it would put money into their pockets.
