Request Check Your Shocks
Life has a way of throwing challenges at us, and it’s easy to let fear or doubt slow us down. But with the right mindset and a few powerful resources, you can turn those obstacles into fuel for success.
In this blog, I’ll discuss how motivational quotes, mental exercises, and actionable steps can help you overcome fear, boost your motivation, and keep you on track toward your goals.
Whether you’re facing personal or professional hurdles, I hope these insights will empower you to move forward with courage and confidence. Now, let’s do this.
Some folks may think I say the same things over and over again, but I’ll tell you what, the short phrases I keep in my back pocket for good use have gotten me where I am today.
Some call them “Addisonisms.” I even put together a book of my favorites. These quotes and phrases remind me of what is important to me, what resonates with me, and why I need to keep going when times are tough or when my knees are a-knockin’.
When you choose just a handful of motivational quotes to get you through, you are creating a thought arsenal with which to defeat even the most unruly of fears. One of my favorites is, “If a door closes, go through a window.” I don’t know who said that one first, but it really says a lot about who they were: unstoppable.
It’s critical to have these quotes where they are accessible to you. Maybe you hang them on the wall or even keep them in a book or on your phone. You need quick access to them so you can program your mind with them. Repeat these expressions. Train your mind. Get behind the ideas that are behind each one of them.
This is important, because when the time comes, and things are difficult or scary, you might want to turn back, but instead you’ll pull out those quotes or repeat one that speaks to you directly, and that will help get you through. In fact, you might just remember that it’s time to go through a window.
When it comes to achieving your goals, motivation is the fuel that keeps you moving forward. But sometimes, we all run a little low on that fuel. That’s where mental exercises come in handy—simple practices that you can incorporate into your daily routine to reignite your drive and keep pushing toward success. Whether you’re trying to hit your next business milestone or aiming to reach a personal goal, these exercises will help you stay focused, energized, and ready to go.
Here are two powerful exercises that will give your motivation a boost:
What it does:
Visualization helps you create a mental picture of success and the emotions that come with it. This exercise taps into your brain’s ability to connect vision with motivation. When you can vividly see yourself achieving your goals, you are more likely to stay motivated and push through obstacles.

What it does:
This technique combats procrastination by making any daunting task seem manageable. It breaks the inertia of inaction and helps you build momentum, which often turns into longer stretches of productivity. By telling yourself you only need to work for 5 minutes, you trick your brain into getting started, which is often the hardest part.
How to do it:
These exercises are designed to help you take control of your wayward motivation and transform it into a constant, driving force. Whether you’re visualizing success, reaffirming your abilities, or just starting small, these tools will empower you to move closer to your goals every single day.

If you know me, you know I’m a UGA diehard. Their football team means so much to me. As a sports guy, I believe in sports psychology. When it comes down to it, sports psychology is another way of saying “Goal-oriented psychology.”
Athletes deal with the very same kind of mental pressure and fear that you do. It might be exaggerated, and the circumstances might be different, but fear, anxiety, and worry are the same across the board. Everyone experiences them on a somewhat regular basis.
So let’s look at some tactics utilized by sports psychologists to help their athletes achieve their best. You’ll want to engage regularly in these to see results!
What it does:
This practice enhances focus, confidence, and mental rehearsal for success. Many people use visualization to mentally prepare for competition and reduce anxiety.
How to do it:
What it does:
This practice keeps you in the present moment, reduces overwhelm, and allows incremental progress. In sports psychology, this helps folks concentrate on process-oriented goals (technique, effort) rather than outcome goals (winning).
How to do it:
These exercises can strengthen mental toughness, which is crucial in both sports and everyday challenges.

When I think about fear and what to do about it, I think… and I think… And that’s it. I realize fear is just a thought that provokes a certain feeling. It starts in the mind, and that’s where it can learn to stay, too. It doesn’t have to stop you from doing what you need—or want—to do.
Think back to the childhood game Truth or Dare. Remember that moment of fear right before doing a dare? You felt the fear, but then you did it anyway. That’s the kind of courage needed to face and overcome fear. It’s about recognizing the fear and taking action anyway.
Courage isn’t always heroic in the traditional sense. You may not need to rush into burning buildings; but courage often involves standing up for what’s right, challenging outdated ideas, or pushing for meaningful change. These actions may not be life-threatening, but they’re rarely easy and don’t always win you new friends.
As Art Williams once said, “Life will give you what you fight for.” While we don’t need to fight for everything we want, we do need to be clear on our goals and take action when necessary. Many people drift through life without a sense of purpose, but knowing where you’re headed is essential. Even if your destination isn’t a physical place, having a clear sense of what you want to achieve will guide your path.
Fear is a natural part of the journey toward success, but how we face that fear is what defines whether we rise or fall.
From action to bravery, some of the most influential voices in history have shared wisdom on overcoming fear and pushing forward. These quotes serve as powerful reminders that fear, doubt, and uncertainty are just hurdles on the path to achievement. Let their words inspire you to take action, confront your challenges, and turn fear into fuel for success.
“Thinking will not overcome fear, but action will.” –W. Clement Stone
“I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning to sail my ship.” –Louisa May Alcott
“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” –Suzy Kassem
“The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” –Nelson Mandela
“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.” –Henry Ford
“Don’t let the fear of striking out hold you back.” –Babe Ruth
